Prosthodontics
A dental implant can be ideal replacement for a missing tooth given the medical and bone conditions are suitable.
Dental implant, acts like a natural tooth root but made up of the most biocompatible metal, Titanium, fuses to the jaw bone (Osseo integrates) over a period of time. After that a crown is placed over it. Dental implant surgery is generally carried out under local anesthesia. Your dentist will discuss with you what will happen before, during and after your procedure.
Benefits of a dental implant :
- Unlike dental bridge, implants do not require the grinding of adjacent teeth for support.
- Implant restores the ability to chew properly, thus allowing a healthy and complete diet.
- Enables you to speak properly.
- Dental implants look and feel like your own teeth.
- Many patients report that implants, despite the initial costs are more comfortable in long term than other conventional techniques and are considered the best option for replacement of teeth.
Following problems of missing teeth can be treated by the use of dental implants :
- Single missing tooth.
- Missing several teeth.
- Missing all teeth (fixed and fixed-removable).

A dental crown is a cap that covers a damaged tooth to protect remaining tooth structure.
A dental crown may be opted for in the following situations :
- To restore an already broken tooth or a tooth that has been severely worn out.
- To cover and support a tooth with a large filling when a lot of tooth structure isn’t left.
- Cover a tooth that has undergone a root canal treatment.
- To cover or restore mis - shaped or severely discolored teeth.
Crown can be made from PFM (Porcelain fused metal) or metal free Zirconia. These advanced ceramic crowns can look fantastic with the characteristics of a natural tooth.

A bridge is a prosthetic replacement of missing tooth / teeth by deriving support from the adjacent natural teeth. The bridge is permanently cemented to the supporting teeth.
Bridges are commonly used to replace one or more missing teeth. Bridges are cemented to either teeth or implants adjoining the empty space. These teeth or implants (as the case may be), called as abutments serve as anchors for the bridge.
The advantages of Bridges are :
- Restore your smile
- Restore your ability to chew and speak properly
- Distribute the forces in your bite properly by replacing missing teeth
- Prevent remaining teeth from drifting out of their position.
Dentures are removable prosthetic appliances. They can replace all or few missing teeth in an arch. If all the teeth in an arch are replaced it is called a complete denture. If only some of the teeth missing are replaced it is called a partial denture.
Complete Dentures
A complete denture restores function and appearance to a jaw with no teeth. It is the most cost effective way of replacing all the teeth in one jaw. A complete denture can also provide crucial support to facial structures like lips and cheeks thereby giving a more youthful appearance.
Removable Partial Denture
They are prosthetic replacement of few missing teeth in an arch for functional or aesthetic reasons. The patients can remove and reinsert them when required without professional help.
Cast Partial Denture
Cast partial dentures are for the patients with multiple tooth missing situations - it can be removed and replaced back by the patients themselves. Removable Partial Dentures with cast metal frameworks offer numerous advantages over the conventional partial dentures commonly used. The frameworks of these dentures are casted to fit the teeth. Since they sit on the teeth, they are extremely stable and retentive. The teeth have to be altered slightly beforehand in order that the partial denture can rest upon them without interfering with the way the patient bites the teeth together.
The metal framework does not contact the gums. Thus, as the gums resorb, this type of partial denture does not sink with them and rarely requires changes. Modern frameworks are cast from an extremely strong alloy called chrome cobalt which can be cast very thin and are much less likely to break than the all plastic variety.
Flexible Dentures
Flexible Dentures are made of special flexible resin that prevents them from irritating the gums, yet allows the wearer to chew properly. It also provides a soft base that prevents the gums from being rubbed raw.
Flexible dentures have got various advantages over the traditional rigid denture bases :
- Translucency of the material picks up underlying tissue tones, making it almost impossible to detect in the mouth.
- No clasping is visible on tooth surfaces (when used in manufacturing of clear clasps), improving aesthetics.
- The material is exceptionally strong and flexible. Free movement is allowed by the overall flexibility.
- Complete biocompatibility is achieved because the material is free of monomer and metal, these being the principle causes of allergic reactions in conventional denture materials.
Full mouth reconstruction, full mouth rehabilitation or full mouth restoration are terms often used interchangeably to describe the process of simultaneously restoring all of the teeth in both the upper and lower jaws. Blending the science of neuromuscular dentistry with the artistry of cosmetic dentistry, full mouth rehabilitation creates smiles that are beautiful, healthy and functional.
full mouth rehabilitation if you experience any of the following.
- Teeth that have been lost due to decay, wear or trauma.
- Teeth that have been injured or fractured.
- Teeth that have become severely worn as a result of long - term acid erosion (foods, beverages, acid reflux) or tooth - tooth grinding.
- Unexplained Loose Teeth
- Dental Restorations Which Frequently Crack, Chip or Break
Full mouth rehabilitation may include one or more of the following dental services :
- Treat your cavities
- Complete root canals, if needed
- Close gaps between your teeth
- Repair chips or cracks in the enamel
- Restore broken and mis - shaped teeth
- Whiten your teeth
- Correct any mal - alignment
- Replace your missing teeth
Eating well during and after cancer treatment means getting enough calories and protein to prevent weight loss, regain strength, and rebuild healthy tissues. But eating well may become difficult after treatment for oral cancer. Some people with cancer find it hard to eat because they lose their teeth and surrounding structures. A dry or sore mouth or changes in smell and taste also may make eating difficult. The goals of rehabilitation depend on the extent of the disease and type of treatment.
We At Dental Square carry out rehabilitation of head and neck cancer patients with obturators, guide plane prostheses, speech prosthesis etc. after ablative surgery. Implant retained maxillofacial prostheses (intra - oral & extra - oral) are also fabricated in patients requiring this modality of treatment.
EAR PROSTHESIS
Auricular (ear) prosthesis artificially restores all or part of the ear which has been lost due to radical cancer surgery, amputation, burns and / or congenital defects. It is possible to use methods and materials available today to create extremely realistic prosthetic ears allowing the Prosthodontist to restore the loss to its natural appearance in match and mobility.
EYE PROSTHESIS
Acrylic prosthetic eye is used to replace a natural eye which has been either "enucleated" or "eviscerated." These are the medical terms for surgical removal of all or part of a severely damaged, diseased or tumored eye. It is our ability to restore the self - confidence of a patient by producing the most natural looking eye prosthesis for patients who have suffered from eye loss or eye trauma and are in need of eye prosthetics (artificial eye).
Root Canal
The pulp is the living tissue of the tooth that contains blood supply and nerve supply. Once the dental decay involves this pulp, it gets infected causing pain. The aim of the root canal treatment is to remove the infected pulp. This is done by removing the infected pulp with files (instruments) in the pulp chamber and cleaning and shaping the root canals and sealing the canal with a filling material.
RCT may be needed in the following situations :
- It hurts when you bite
- The tooth is sensitive to anything hot
- It is sensitive to cold for more than a couple of minutes
- There is swelling in the gums near the tooth
- Tooth is discolored
- It is broken
Length of the treatment :
RCT can be done in one or more visits. It depends upon the situation. A non - complicated RCT often can be completed in one visit. Once the RCT is finished, a crown or routinely known as cap on it is must to prevent the tooth from breaking in the future.
Cosmetic Dentistry
A smile makeover is the process of improving the appearance of the smile through one or more cosmetic dentistry procedures, such as dental veneers, composite bonding, tooth implants and teeth whitening.
A smile makeover takes into consideration your facial appearance, skin tone, hair color, teeth (color, width, length, shape and tooth display), gum tissue and lips to develop your ideal smile. Smile makeovers are performed for many reasons and customized according to your unique considerations.
The smile designing procedures can be classified under the following categories :
- Basic cosmetic dental procedures - scaling & oral prophylaxis, tooth whitening, tooth - colored restorative procedures, dental bonding, veneers and dental jewelry.
- Periodontal procedures - management of gingivitis and periodontitis, gingival contouring, gingival de - pigmentation and management of "Gummy Smiles".
- Orthodontic procedures - to correct irregularity and mal-alignment of teeth.
- Crown and bridge procedures - carried out to replace missing teeth / strengthen or modify the shape of existing tooth / teeth by providing cap(s) over them.
- Dental Implant procedures - to replace missing teeth.
The smile questionnaire to assess your smile yourself :
- In a slight smile with your teeth parted, do the tips of your teeth show?
- Do you have spaces between your front teeth?
- Do your front teeth protrude or stick out?
- Are your front teeth crowded or overlapping?
- Are you happy with the color of your teeth? Do you have stains on your teeth?
- Do your front teeth have fillings whose shade does not match the natural tooth color?
- Do your front teeth look abnormal in shape or size?
- Do the necks of your teeth indicate erosion or ditched in 'V' that can be seen or felt with your finger nails?
- Are your gums pink and 'knife edged' or are they red and swollen?
- Is your mouth free of decay or gum disease that can cause bad breath?
- Do you find it difficult to close your lips in rest position?
- Do you have a “gummy” smile?
- Do you have inability to bite into foodstuffs and chew them properly? If you think you have any of the above - mentioned findings consult your dentist at Dental Square to achieve a wonderful smile, which you desire.
Veneers
Have you always envied the smile of your favorite celebrity and wondered how they have such beautifully aligned sparkling teeth? You might be surprised to find out how many of them have had cosmetic dental work.
That beautiful smile can actually be yours and the quickest way of doing that is to opt for dental Veneers and Laminates.
These are wafer-thin shells of tooth - colored material that are cemented to the front surface of your teeth to improve your cosmetic appearance.
Porcelain Veneers can correct :
- Uneven or crooked teeth
- Teeth that have shapes out of proportion
- Too much gum visibility when you smile
- Yellow teeth that are dark and cannot be whitened or bleached
- Teeth that are sensitive
- bad bite, this is the most complex use of porcelain veneers and requires bite reconstruction without grinding down you natural teeth.
Diastema closure or gap closure of the teeth can be done using several methods, like orthodontics, composite bonding, or porcelain veneers for optimal aesthetic results.
A diastema that occurs because of a mismatch between the teeth and the jaw does not have symptoms. However, spaces caused by a tongue thrust habit or periodontal disease will tend to expand or grow with time. The teeth may become loose, and discomfort or pain may occur, particularly during biting or chewing. Sometimes, a diastema is part of a set of problems that require orthodontic treatment. In other cases, a diastema is the only problem. However, some people may seek treatment for reasons of appearance.
Some people get braces, which move the teeth together. Often, no matter where the diastema is, you must wear a full set of braces - on both your upper and lower teeth. That's because moving any teeth affects your entire mouth. If your lateral incisors are too small, your dentist may suggest widening them using crowns, veneers or bonding. If you have a space because you are missing teeth, you might need more extensive dental repair. This might include Dental Implants, a Bridge or a Partial Denture.
If a large labial frenum is causing the gap, the frenum can be reduced through surgery called a frenectomy. If a frenectomy is done in a younger child, the space may close on its own. If it is done in an older child or an adult, the space may need to be closed with braces.
If the gap is caused by periodontal disease, then periodontal treatment by gum specialist is necessary. When gum health is restored, in many cases braces can be used to move the teeth into place. In some cases, a bridge will be required to close the spaces.
Bleaching or teeth whitening is a procedure wherein your teeth are whitened using a peroxide based compounds (gels). Your gums and lips are protected using special barriers. Once the gel is applied on your teeth, they are then exposed to the revolutionary power light. The end result is a set of sparkling white teeth which are about 3 - 5 shades lighter and whiter! This light activated whitening system takes just about an hour to give you those perfect white teeth!!
Teeth whitening or bleaching is a perfect solution for whitening your stained, yellow or dull teeth. Staining from coffee, tea, red wine, cola or just plain yellow teeth can be transformed to a set of sparkling white teeth in just about an hour by bleaching.
We can also provide you with a kit for home use wherein you can do it by yourself in the comfort of your home and at your own leisure. Teeth whitening is an absolutely safe procedure & does not have any side effects. Occasionally it causes slight transient sensitivity in the teeth, which can easily be taken care of with desensitizing mouthwashes.
Natural looking tooth - colored fillings, or 'white' fillings, are also known as 'composite' fillings and are made from very strong bonding material that can be shaped to the exact requirements of the tooth. This material is set using a special light source that cures the filling material. Natural white fillings are now the most common and recommended cosmetic dental procedure.
They are an ideal replacement for old black or silver amalgam fillings and will last as long with none of the potential side effects amalgam fillings are now known for. This material has undergone years of research and development in both composition and technique. At Dental Square, we use the latest techniques and materials to offer you the best result in comfort, care and quality with great natural looking results.
Dental composite fillings can be used for filling new cavities, replacing old metal or amalgam fillings, repairing chipped teeth and also can help to fill up the gaps between teeth in some cases.
These tiny tooth accessories are great fun and add a zing in a real sense to your pearls! The tooth jewelry used and the procedure for applying it are absolutely safe! The application is a very simple 10 minutes procedure. Just like an orthodontic bracket, the design is bonded on to your tooth structure. You can have it removed at any time, or simply replace it with another one. Since there is no drilling involved, it doesn’t harm your teeth and is absolutely pain free !
5 minutes procedure :
- You can choose from a variety of colored crystals (Have a demo for yourself on the spot).

- Superficial. No drilling required.
- Painless.
- Very cost effective.
- Can be removed at any point of time.
- Can be fixed again at a later stage.
Oral Surgery
Simple extractions are performed usually under local anesthesia for teeth / tooth roots that are quite visible in the mouth and are no more salvageable. This requires only the use of instruments to elevate and / or grasp the visible portion of the tooth. Classically the tooth is lifted by the use of an elevator and dental forceps, rocked back and forth until the supporting ligaments has been sufficiently broken and the adjoining bone is adequately widened for smooth removal of offending tooth / root.
Surgical extractions involve the removal of teeth / roots that cannot be accessed easily, either because of inadequate structure to grip on or non-eruption (e.g. wisdom molars) in mouth. Surgical extractions involve an incision for accessibility. Doctor elevates the soft tissues covering to expose the offending tooth / root followed by removal of some of the overlying and / or surrounding jawbone. Occasionally the tooth may have to be split into multiple segments for its smooth removal. The incision in the gum may then need to be closed with stiches (depending on the extent).
Wisdom tooth extraction is a surgical procedure to remove one or more wisdom teeth. Wisdom teeth are the four permanent (adult) molars located at the back corners of your mouth in both jaws. These teeth are considered as the hardest ones for both patients and doctors.
Wisdom extraction may be done for several reasons. The wisdom teeth may be creating inadequate space for surrounding teeth pushing them out of their position. This is one reason that extraction may be elected. Additionally, the wisdom teeth can do damage to the surrounding gums and cause sores leading to infection/swelling of the gums. Sometimes it may add to the problem of food lodgment and subsequent pain.
The main symptoms that leads to wisdom teeth extraction are :
- infection in the mouth
- facial swelling
- pain
- swelling of the gum line in the back of the mouth
Orthodontics - Braces / Clear Aligners
Dental braces (alias orthodontic braces or braces) align and straighten teeth and help to position them in a most functionally and esthetically stable position. They are often used to correct under bites, malocclusions, overbites, cross bites, open bites, deep bites, crooked teeth, and various other flaws of the teeth and jaw.
'The application of braces moves the teeth as a result of steady, slow, controlled force on the teeth. It consists of four components to help move the teeth. These include brackets, molar bands, arch wire and ligature rings that help align the teeth. The teeth move when the arch wire puts pressure on the brackets and in turn on teeth.
In lingual braces the brackets are cemented onto the backside of the teeth making them invisible during routine activities like speaking and smiling. While in standard braces the brackets are cemented onto the front side of the teeth. Hence, lingual braces are a cosmetic alternative to those who do not wish the braces to be visible.
Clear Aligners are removable medical grade plastic appliances to correct malocclusion. Dental aligners are a modern alternative to braces for mal - aligned teeth.
It is a modern day concept of Cosmetic and Adult Orthodontic treatment without using traditional method of wires and brackets. This is definitely a better choice for the adults as well as conscious children to correct their mal aligned teeth without social inhibitions.
They also offer predictable results visualization even before the treatment. These appliances are clear in appearance and removable for carrying out routine activities adding to a great level of comfort for the patients.
Periodontics
The most essential visit would be for a dental cleaning and check-up. Scaling or in simple terms teeth cleaning allows the dentist to maintain your oral health and are important to prevent dental diseases from developing. Daily brushing with toothpaste and mouthwash rinses might not be enough to maintain a good oral health in the long term.
Regular dental checkup along with scaling and polishing are the cornerstone for a lifetime of dental health and the best insurance you can have for keeping a healthy, natural and beautiful smile !
To maintain good oral hygiene, we recommend dental checkup every 6 months. Going for such regular check-ups not only helps keep your gums and teeth healthy, but it also allows early detection of any dental problem thereby shielding you against time consuming and expensive dental treatments.
Reasons to get scaling & polishing done :
- To remove extrinsic stains caused by food (coffee / tea) or tobacco.
- To remove tartar or calculus – helps prevent gum diseases thereby preventing gum recession, teeth loosening and subsequently, tooth loss.
- Screening for oral disease like decay and cavities.
- To learn about how best to keep your teeth and gums clean and healthy by use of oral aids.
What is the difference between teeth whitening and scaling & polishing? Teeth may become yellowish due to aging effects or by excessive consumption of dark staining foods like coffee, tea, red wine or tobacco.
Teeth whitening is a cosmetic dental procedure that lightens the pigmentation within the teeth. On the other hand, scaling and polishing is a procedure that removes dental plaque, tartar and extrinsic stains that are present on the outer surface of the teeth.
Few treatment modalities for gum disease are surgical
Flap surgery / pocket reduction surgery. During this procedure the gums are lifted back and the tarter accumulated beneath are removed. In some cases, irregular surfaces of the damaged bone are smoothened to limit areas where disease-causing bacteria can hide. The gums are then placed back in their position so that the tissue fits snugly around the tooth.
Bone grafts. This procedure involves use of fragments of patient's own bone, or synthetic bone to replace bony tissue lost in gum disease. These grafts serve as a platform for the regrowth of natural bone, thereby restoring the stability of teeth.
Soft tissue grafts. This procedure reinforces thin gums or fills in places where gums have receded. Grafted tissue, mostly taken from the roof of the mouth, is stitched in place, adding tissue to the affected area.
Guided tissue regeneration. This procedure stimulates both bone and gum tissue growth. Usually done in combination with flap surgery, a small medical grade mesh structure is placed between the bone and gum tissue. This prevents the gum tissue from ingrowing in the area where the bone growth is desired.
Halitosis, mal-odor or bad breath describes a markedly obnoxious odor that is exhaled on breath of individuals. Though it is not a serious health condition, but can adversely affect our interpersonal relationships.
We are quite familiar with the fact that consumption of certain foods like onions and garlic can affect our breath. This happens because these types of foods are mainly absorbed by the bloodstream and then it is transferred to our lungs, thus we exhale bad breath. However, the bad breath that is caused due to consumption of certain foods is temporary and it is eliminated after few hours. But the bad breath that is caused due to tobacco products, smoking, periodontal disease, improper cleaning of dentures and poor oral health need immediate medical attention as bad breath caused due to these reason may cause further damage to your oral health. Bad breath that is caused due to abovementioned reasons may adversely affect the bloodstream, lungs and stomach.
We at Dental Square are well equipped with latest methods to treat patients with bad breath. We will first find out the root cause of bad breath and offer treatment accordingly. Our dentists will first determine the odor source and then plan treatment for the patients so that they can get the best treatment possible bad breath problem. If your odor is due to gum disease, then we will first treat the disease and make your oral health better to stop bad breath problem.
If the bad breath is exhaled due to gum disease, then immediate medical attention is required. In gum disease, the gums tissues are pulled away from the teeth and deep pockets are formed where odor-causing bacteria is accumulated. It requires professional cleaning to remove the bacteria and to treat the gum disease. Sometime the dentists may also ask you to replace faulty tooth restorations because it can be a breeding ground of odor - causing bacteria.
So, if you are suffering from the problem of bad breath, then we at Dental Square can offer you breathe treatment to eliminate the odor-causing bacteria permanently and offer you new confidence. Sometime the food debris and oral bacteria produce unstable sulfur compounds due to which the person exhales bad breath. Fortunately, it can be treated at our multi - specialty dental clinic. Besides, bad breath treatment we also offer oral health plan that includes tongue cleaning, daily flossing, regular professional cleanings etc. All these are necessary to maintain better oral health and to prevent bad breath for future.
Gum De - pigmentation is mainly performed to remove the pigments and ugly spots from the gums. Usually, the color of the gum tissue is pink, but due to accumulation of excessive melanin - ugly patches on gum tissues are seen as a cosmetic problem. Several reasons including long term synthetic medications and smoking can lead to such unaesthetic patches. The treatment options include surgical, chemical and laser treatment for depigmentation.
Trauma to the teeth can be transmitted to the supporting structures damaging it and can cause mobility of the teeth. Such loose teeth may require splinting for a specific period until the supporting tissues heal making the offending tooth stable. It involves binding a group of teeth together so that the biting forces are shared by a group of teeth instead of being born by the single affected tooth.
Pediatric Dentistry
Fillings may be needed to repair mild decay. Severe decay may require a crown, root canal or even removal of the tooth.
A filling is a substance that replaces a decayed or broken part of a tooth. Commonly used materials include metal alloy, cement or composite. Because of their desirable properties, composites are often used on front teeth.
Crowns are used to repair grossly destructed teeth that are broken or show so much decay where a filling may not suffice. They are available in a preformed manner and so can be completed in a single sitting for pediatric patients.
Fluoride Application by gels / foam is a highly concentrated form of fluoride which is applied to the tooth's surface by a dentist as a type of topical fluoride therapy. It can be used to help prevent decay, remineralize the tooth surface and to treat dentinal hypersensitivity.
- Fluoride varnishes are available in different flavors for getting compliance while treating younger patients
- Fluoride trays are filled with fluoride foam
- Easy and quick application.
- Due to the small amounts used and the rapid setting time there is only a small or negligible amount of fluoride ingested.
When the tooth nerve or pulp tissue is infected, it needs to be treated to evade dental abscess and tooth loss. The two methods of treating dental nerve tissue infections are pulpotomy and pulpectomy. The eventual objective of these procedures is to save the tooth, so that the integrity and function of the dental vault can be maintained.
It is a non - vital technique used for the removal of necrotic pulp tissue followed by filling the root canals with resorbable cement.

Dental Radiology
Digital Radiography is a form of X-ray imaging, where - in digital X-ray sensor is used instead of a traditional photographic film. In contrast to conventional radiography it has advantage of saving time and low radiation with high resolution.
Instead of X-ray film, digital radiography uses a digital image capture device. This gives advantages of immediate image preview and availability, elimination of film processing steps, more forgiving for over - and under - exposure, as well as the ability to apply special image processing techniques that enhance overall display of the image.
